DeWitt Wallace has partnered with the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists to co-host the 2016 Political Cartoon and Satire Festival! Cartoonists and members from the Duke community alike will partake in panels discussing everything from the #BlackLivesMatter movement to caricaturing the presidential candidates.
Students–interact directly with the cartoonists at the Student-Cartoonist Cookout, Friday, from 5-7 p.m. on the Sanford Building Lawn, and at the Student Satire Workshop where cartoonists will work in teams to teach students the process of drawing a political cartoon!
Evening events will be held in Page Auditorium on both Thursday and Friday. Thursday night will be a night of improv comedy with Duke groups DUI and Inside Joke and the occasional cartoonist. Friday evening is “Night of the Simpsons: A Celebration of Satire” and will feature a team of writers and producers from the show. There will be a Q&A so bring any questions about The Simpsons that you have!
The full festival agenda can be found here.
Shameless plug!! There are AMAZING perks to volunteering for the festival so check it out. Volunteers get a ringer tee (white with black cuffs/collar, Duke/AAEC stylized logo on the back) plus FREE tickets to evening events (improv night and Simpsons night) plus one on one networking with the cartoonists. Amazing. Do it.
