The creators of the 9th Street Journal, a student newspaper based in the Duke DeWitt Wallace Center, have started an experiment using artificial intelligence to write stories that otherwise might not get reported. The idea behind the experiment is to turn local government press releases into stories on the new “10th Street Journal” page, since the 9th Street Journal, like many other local newsrooms, doesn’t have the manpower to cover every story that comes their way. Read more about the new initiative in the Duke Today interview with Research Associate Joel Luther, and to read some of the AI-generated articles, go to the 10th Street Journal page on the 9th Street Journal website.
